Don’t Be a Square: Try round Cards

Serious poker players- don’t be offended. I think that it is a good idea to shape up your casual home play by trying round, or other unusual shaped, cards. If you are just playing at home or the casino, it shouldn’t really matter if you are playing with tournament regulation cards. Before all you poker players out there are offended that I would suggest such a thing- take a look at the facts.

New player to card games, especially children, may find it difficult to hold rectangular cards. It is rather hard to play a good round of Go Fish if the little tyke can’t keep his cards in his hand. This is one reason why children’s decks tend to come in different shapes than the adult versions. Now this may seem obvious, but unusual shaped decks are just more fun than the standard Bicycle pack. They add a bit of whimsy to the game and keep it light. You don’t want to make your home games too serious; you are just there to have fun after all.

A word to the wise before you try out new cards: some novelty packs may be slightly translucent because they are not printed on official card stock. Just something to look into if you are trying to lighten up a game with really intense players.
