Bacardi and the Stockholm Water Foundation

Aside from its environmental initiatives courtesy of the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety plan, Bacardi Limited also works in partnership with the Stockholm Water Foundation. The Bacardi-Stockholm partnership dates back to 1995, when Bacardi gave $2 million to the foundation in support of the group’s environmental activities aimed at conserving water globally. The endowment also paved the way for a professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fields of science, engineering, and water resources.

During the establishment of the professorship in 1995, MIT’s president, Dr. Charles Vest, expressed his gratitude to both Bacardi and the Stockholm Water Foundation for setting an example of international understanding and cooperation that deals with a universal issue. Dr. Vest further added that he believed the partnership will work especially well for the endless quest for environmental preservation and improvement.

For its part, Bacardi strengthened its commitment to the preservation, restoration, and protection of the world’s coastal waters. This commitment began with the foundation of the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety plan. Headed by a Steering Group, the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety plan works to ensure that the company’s operations comply with international practices and standards.

Bacardi and the Stockholm Water Foundation prioritizes empowerment and education in their continuing quest of encouraging people to help improve water quality all over the world.
